Screening Ideas from Districts

The following suggestions related to remote screening process is from Child Find FDLRS – Hillsborough. The Communication, Cognitive, Motor (CCM) Screener is used during family interviews and in conjunction with the Adaptive and Personal-Social domains of BDI-2NU Screening Test.

Evaluation Ideas from Districts

  • Document and maintain releases of information.
  • Some are testing by bringing families in 1 (less than 10 people) at a time in a designated space that they sanitize thoroughly – and ensure that the families don’t have a temp/not sick.
  • Front loading evaluations-doing as much as possible for the evaluation by phone with the parent prior to doing the in person evaluation
  • Evaluating virtually with Developmental Profile – 3 (DP3) or Developmental Assessment of Young Children 2 (DAYC-2)
  • Due Process: document everything you do-parent contacts etc (time, date, who spoke to, reason and outcome) in case you do not provide services or evaluations

Transition Ideas from Districts

  • Document and maintain releases of information.
  • Part C Transition – Consider the use of information coming from Early Steps and use as much as their documentation as possible. Conduct virtual interviews for evaluations when there is sufficient information.
  • Part C transitions – Early Steps is doing it virtually in some places and being inventive. Can use adobe signature for signatures, can do screen shots.
  • Children receiving Part C services – is it possible for them to continue receiving services through Part C so kids don’t lose what they have gained? District could possibly contract with Part C. (Lee and Miami can provide info.) This is a district decision and a viable option.
  • Transition Meetings: parents print out form from home, sign it, show to computer and then the staff screen shots it while on the Skype or Zoom call
  • Using Code J if did not hold meeting (emergency code)
  • Due Process: document everything you do-parent contacts etc (time, date, who spoke to, reason and outcome) in case you do not provide services or evaluations
  • Some are conducting extensions for IEPs that are expiring and will be doing transitions by phone. Doing everything by phone as much as possible. Consent for placement is being mailed and returned. Will make notes in the “conference notes” section explaining the situation.
